West Bengal Regional Chapter
ABOUT
Institute of Town Planners, India, (ITPI) the apex body of the Town Planners in India (ITPI), was constituted in the year 1951 to promote the planned development of the cities and the towns and to advance the studies of town planning in the country. It also organizes conferences etc for the exchange of views and sharing the knowledge and to foster the general awareness about the urban planning. The objectives of the ITPI includes promoting the general interests of those engaged in the practice in town & country planning and fostering the teaching of subjects related to town and country planning and assist in providing such teaching.
Apart from the West Bengal Regional Chapter (WBRC), there are 23 Regional Chapters and 5 Regional Centers.
History of WBRC
This Regional Chapter of ITPI was originally named as Kharagpur Regional Chapter, as the 11th in the country, was established in early 1984 at I.I.T., Kharagpur to look into the professional matters of town planners and promote town-planning education in the eastern region. Initially the number of members was only 15. Later, in 1997, the Kharagpur Regional Chapter was renamed as West Bengal Regional Chapter.
During 1985, Govt. of West Bengal had allotted a plot of land of about 412.38 sq. m. (6.0 Katha) at IB-190, Sector-III, Salt Lake, which came under possession of the Chapter during 1991. Construction of the chapter building was started in November 1993. West Bengal Regional Chapter was the 2nd in the Country to have its Chapter Building when the completed first phase of it was inaugurated on 10th April 1998. The final phase of construction of the building was completed in the year 2006.

The Chapter Building is G+IV storied on a 6.0 kattah land at Salt Lake.
Ground Floor : Car Parking and lift Lobby.
1st Floor : Conference Hall with A.C (Capacity : 70 )
2nd Floor : About 1750 Sft is available on lease/license for office etc.
3rd Floor : Chapter s Office, Library and a Meeting Room
4th Floor : Guest Rooms
Guest House facility
There are 5(five) guest rooms in the 4th floor among which four are A.C. double-bedded and one dormitory of 4-bed capacity. Each room has attached toilet with hot water facility. The building is located near the Mizoram House and is facing the IB Block Park at Salt Lake. The Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre(EZCC) and the Bigbazar shopping mall are also located at a very close distance, while the Sector V (IT Hub) is at a distance of about 1.8 Km.

LIBRARY
The ITPI WBRC is having a reference Library with important books, reports, manuals, journals and periodicals, useful for urban planning education and research. The members and students may visit the Chapter Building during working hours.
